APRN Educational Requirements

K.A.R. 60-11-103(b)(2): complete a formal, post-basic nursing education program that is not located or offered in Kansas but is determined by the board to meet the standards for program approval established by K.A.R. 60-17-101, K.A.R. 60-17-102, K.A.R. 60-17-103, K.A.R. 60-17-104, K.A.R. 60-17-105, K.A.R. 60-17-106, K.A.R. 60-17-107, and K.A.R. 60-17-108.

Advanced pharmacology education requirement. Each applicant who completes an advanced practice registered nursing program after January 1, 1997 shall have completed three college hours in advanced pharmacology or the equivalent

Advanced pathophysiology and advanced health assessment education requirement. Each applicant who completes and advanced practice registered nurse program after January 1, 2009 shall have completed three college hours in advanced pathophysiology or it equivalent and three college hours in advanced health assessment or its equivalent

 

K.A.R. 60-17-105 Curriculum requirements:

  • (b)(8): clinical instruction in the area of specialization
  • (c)(1) Each program shall consist of at least 45 semester credit hours or the academic equivalent
  • (c)(2) The clinical component shall consist of at least 260 hours of clinical learning. After January 1, 2003, the clinical component shall consist of at least 500 hours of clinical learning. After July 1, 2009, the clinical component shall consist of at least 500 hours of clinical learning in each clinical track, or the program shall provide documentation of the overlap if any clinical track consists of less than 500 clinical hours.
